New toy: Fuji S2 Pro

I finally succumbed and bought myself a D-SLR(Digital SLR) from an ex-flatmate’s boyfriend. I am now the proud owner of the following equipment:

* Fuji S2 Pro
* Nikon AF 24-85 2.8-4 macro lens
* Nikon SB-80DX speedlight (flashgun) with no manual :( * 2 IBM microdrives

First results are impressive, but show me that I’ve a lot to learn, particularly on the meetering front. My only gripe is with the viewfinder: I used to use an old Pentax SLR which made it very easy to tell while focusing if it was in focus or not (hard to describe; it had a split ring in the viewfinder, which magnified problems with the alignment…). I miss that. However, as this camera has auto focus hopefully that will work most of the time.

Can anyone advise where to get second hand lenses in the UK apart from LCE shops? I would like a wide angle (Tamron 17-35 would be lovely!) and a telephoto as well. The wide angle’s the most important:- I was going to buy the Sigma 15-30mm off this guy as well, but he’d sold it to someone else.

Gene Wilburn: Why I Don’t Want a DSLR…Yet

“Gene Wilburn”:http://www.northernjourney.com/ has written a thought-provoking piece entitled “Why I Don’t Want a DSLR…Yet”:http://www.northernjourney.com/photo/articles/dslr-opinion.html that outlines the arguments against buying a DSLR(Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera) at the present time.

It made me stop and think as it was outlining all the arguments that I’ve been making for not buying one. I _want_ a DSLR(Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera), as I’m getting frustrated with my Fuji 2600Zoom, I want more megapixels and interchangable lenses, and I don’t like EVFs available. But maybe I’m better off waiting… except when will I buy one? I’ll always be waiting for the price to come down/features to be implemented.

Just like buying a computer!
